Dodo               : Ok. student. Today I’m going to teach about fundamental of plant disease protection. Have you known about fundamental of plant disease protection?

Restu               :Yes. in my view point, fundamental of plant disease protection is human activity for protection the plants from plant irritant organism.

Andiar             : In my opinion fundamental of plant disease protection is any kind of ways for preventing yield losses caused by plant irritant organism.

Dodo               : Your statements are correct. It is not doubt you can get B.U scholarship. Just now you said about plant irritant organism. As far as you know, what is plant irritant organism telling about?

Restu               : Plant irritant organism is an organism causing disturbance in plants.

Andiar             : No, that’s wrong sir. That’s not only about organism. It is also caused by wind.

Dodo               : Your statements are correct but it is not complete enough. So, I will give you the correct explanation about OPT. Based on the types there are three kind of plant irritant organism, the first one is pest, pathogen, and the last one is weeds. Mean while based on properties there are two kind of plant irritant organism, both of them are abiotic and biotic.

Restu               : Mr, Can I ask you about the example of biotic irritant ?

Dodo               : Can you answer it Andiar ?

Andiar             : Hmmmm, I think one of the example is pest because there are a live.

Dodo               : Yes, biotic irritant is living thing, such as pest, pathogen, and weeds. Otherwise, abiotic irritant are wind, earthquake, flood, and so on.

Andiar             : What is pest ?

Dodo               : Can you answer about pest, Restu ?

Restu               : I think , pest is an insect.

Dodo               : But not only an insect Restu, another animal can be a pest as well. For example a mice. Pest is an animal which an eating activity causing plant damages. Do you get my point?

Student           : Yes sir, clear enough.

Dodo               : Next, I’m going to tell about weeds? Do yo know weeds?

Restu               : Weeds is a plant that disturbing a crop.

Dodo               : That was correct, but it didn’t complete yet. Weeds is a plant species which has a rule to be a crop competitor in which taking a nutrition, water, and sunlight.

Restu               : What is weeds causing for?

Dodo               : Weeds can cause a main crop experiencing lack of nutrition, water, and sunligth. So, those condition cause an abnormal crop growth.

Restu               : What are the diffences between weeds and pathogen?

Dodo               : Oke, to explain more about plant diseases, I have a friend from University of Florida, USA. He is an plant diseases expert. Now, he is with me. Maybe, he will get here soon. His name is Mr. Ganda Arief.

Dodo               : Ok, with your regard and can you tell to us about pathogen?

Ganda             : Have you known about a plant disease previously?

Andiar             : Plant disease is influence by pathogen.

Ganda             : Ok, thats right. Plant disease is a unbeneficial process which causing plant disfunction. Plant disease cause disfunction plant physiology.

Andiar             : Is the diseases contaminating?

Ganda             : Disease disturbance caused by abiotic is not cantaminating. But, Disease disturbance caused by biotic can be contaminated. Do you know the example of abiotic and biotic irritant ?

Restu               : The example if abiotic irritant is wind and the example of biotic irriant is pathogen.

Ganda             : Yes, everything that have you said is correct.

Andiar             : How do we know the plant can get influence by diseases?

Ganda             : We can determine a disease from symptom and sign in a plant.

Restu               : You said that plant diseases caused by pathogen. What is the kind of pathogen?

Ganda             : The pathogen can be a virus, bactery and fungi. Bactery and fungi are living thing, but a virus is not a living thing.

Andiar             : Why is the virus not a living thing?

Ganda             : Because virus doesn’t have a cell, but only has cell particle. Virus also can’t breed using vegetative or generative. Have you understood about disease?

Student           : A little bit sir!

Ganda             : It’s ok my student, if you want to undestand deeper about plant diseases stuff, you can go to florida, ok. this class is amazing, I’m proud of you.
